This year will be remembered for many reasons.
A worldwide pandemic, quite possibly the bitchiest of US Presidential elections, and – when it comes to interiors, at least – the dominance of one colour: blue!
Our love affair with blue started at the back end of 2019 when Pantone named Classic Blue its Colour of the Year 2020 and it hasn’t stopped since.
Blue has not only overtaken grey as the most sought-after tile colour and paint finish on Instagram (#greytiles: 25,409 #bluetiles: 27,069; #bluepaint: 48,222 #greypaint 15,851) but searches for the colour on Google – within the Homes & Garden category – recently peaked at the highest ever.
And it’s easy to see why. It works beautifully with a host of accent shades, from crisp white to rich mustards, and looks stunning when paired with striking metallic elements.
Abbas Youssefi is a director of family-run tile retailer, Porcelain Superstore.
He said: “Homeowners are getting braver in their tile choices.
“Gone are the days when whites and other pale shades were the sole choice when it comes to tiles. We are seeing a solid increase in the number of sample requests we receive in bolder shades and our blue tiles are certainly receiving a lot of love right now.”
